Join the Shoal Creek Conservancy for the second Shoal Creek Walking Tour of Spring 2017, Our Austin Story on Shoal Creek. There is no single location in Austin where more strains of our past coalesce than Wooldridge Square, located in the Shoal Creek watershed. African-American history, civil rights, religious freedom, Texas politics, and Keep Austin Weird are all rooted in this civic space. Join us as we visit this special square and learn more about the forces that shaped the Austin of today.
Austin continues to grow at an unprecedented rate. There is a risk that Austin's heritage will be lost (or at least diminished) during our maturation into a major city. Austin's historic squares are common ground, and ideal for the interpretation and communication of this shared heritage. Our Austin Story is reaching every facet of our society, and constructing a narrative of our city from the stories and experiences shared by those who lived them.
This walk is co-hosted by the Downtown Austin Alliance and Friends of Wooldridge Square and will be led by Conservancy Board Member Ted Lee Eubanks.
