Austin History Center, 810 Guadalupe

This event is free and open to the public.

Library programs and workshops reflect the creative endeavors and diverse interests of the Austin community.

Keith Maitland, director/producer of the SXSW award-winning documentary film TOWER, will discuss the film, which combines archival footage with rotoscopic animation to tell the story from the perspective of survivors, heroes and witnesses of America’s first mass shooting on a school campus.

Maitland will be joined by former KTBC reporter Neal Spelce, one of the subjects in the film, who was there 50 years ago—reporting live on August 1, 1966— as the massacre unfolded.

This discussion complements and accompanies the current Austin History Center exhibit on display in the David Earl Holt Photo Gallery: Looking Back: 50 Years after the UT Tower Shooting
