The Austin History Center Association/Waterloo Press will be exhibiting at the 8th Annual Save Texas History Symposium on Saturday, September 16 at the Commons Learning Center on the JJ Pickle Campus in North Austin. The symposium, entitled Texas and the Great War, will examine the role of the Lone Star State in World War I. Topics include the Zimmerman Telegram, and how the media and government propaganda played a role in the war effort. Speakers will also examine the 36th Infantry Division, the Battleship Texas, the role of East Texas African Americans in the war effort, and also the riots at Camp Logan.
Additionally, attendees are invited to take part in a free workshop on Friday, September 15 at the Texas General Land Office, where speakers will discuss various resources for studying WWI.
