Special Letter asking for your membership support

Letter to you from Lee Cooke
President, Austin History Center Association
Mayor, City of Austin 1988-91

Hello and thank you for visiting the Austin History Center Association web site after receiving the recent membership application we sent specifically to you. As a resident of downtown – the heart of where Austin began 180 years ago – your participation with us at this unprecedented time is most important.

Not since the closing days of World War I has Austin experienced a health crisis like COVID-19. Right now, nonprofits everywhere are struggling. Small organizations are particularly hard hit. AHCA needs your financial support now more than ever to survive. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining us at whatever level you can. If you are already a member and can do so, please consider increasing your membership donation.

Your membership in our 40-year-old organization comes with a passport to exciting future events at iconic locations and a chance to hear the stories that made them famous. It is a chance to gain a real understanding of our history from the words and images of the thousands of people who preceded us, people who made Austin what it is in 2020.

As we all adjust our lives to help slow the impact of coronavirus, we hope you will enjoy traveling through time with us online to learn more about the unique city you call home. Our city has always been unique – from the seeds of its beginnings 180 years ago. The story of Austin is your story. Let us share it with you.

Won’t you please complete the member application you received mail it back to us today. Or join AHCA online by clicking on

And, when we are again able to gather safely, please come and visit us. We are located just up the street in the 1933 Austin History Center.

Our Austin story needs your support now to remain vibrant for generations.

Thank you for your attention. Stay safe and comfortable. We look forward to seeing you face to face soon.
